8:40 AM - FEC has ruled ... Bloggers are Journalists

The FEC (U.S. agency) has ruled that bloggers can be journalists. Basically the lack of a blogger's objectivity does not excluce him or her from being a journalist.

The ruling makes sense. Fox News claims they put journalists on the air, therefore a blogger is a journalist too.

8:47 AM - WTF

I just read an interesting post. Someone asked if childfree women would consider ever being a surrogate mother.

Now my answer is pretty simple. Due to the fact I would have to go on a blood thinner and visit a specialist several times a month in addition to regular doctor visits, I would not agree to a surrogacy. My logic is that if I was going to put my body through hell, it would be because I wanted a kid. Plus, any friends or family that asked me to do that would be asshole. Most of my family knows my medical history, and therefore would fall into the asshole category for asking.

However the question is interesting. It's a nice "what if."

Seriously I wish meat eaters could hear themselves when they start their pro-meat rants.

8:58 AM - It's quiet in the lab

Well, it's the calm before the storm. We have a line outside the lab door.

I want to get a little more work done with the java client today. However I do need to work on a school project.

8:54 AM - Students' rights online (update)

I was talking to my mother last night, and I mentioned that several private schools have been suspending and expelling students over blogs and websites. I noted that these sites were written at home, etc...

My mom told me that my old high school now has a "proper use" policy regarding computers. If a student writes anything offensive about the school or another student, he or she will be suspended or expelled. This policy concerns the students' personal websites and blogs.

I asked my mother how the school could even determine who wrote the comments. She told me that the policy is interrupted, ie. we have no way of proving who wrote what on the Internet.

I also pointed out that a student could impersonate another student to get him or her expelled.

For example, I don't like Carol. I make a blog and pretend to be Carol. Eventually I write something about myself as "Carol" to get her suspended or expelled.

7:55 AM - Stop hiding behind your roommate

One of my employees is another GA's roommate. This creates some problems at times.

For example, yesterday I found one of the doors open and a computer running a simulation overnight that shouldn't be. The computer simulation was a very minor problem, and I nicely reminded the person in email to assign overnight simulations to the designated row. The door being open was a much bigger problem, it's a security risk.

I emailed the individual over both issues. I asked him if this stuff did or did not happen.

His response was ask my roommate the GA since he was with me at closing.

He didn't say a yes or no. I know this means he's guilty as sin, and is hoping his roommate can cover his ass.

Funny thing is that yesterday I spoke with our supervisor about the fact this individual is sometimes abusing his relationship with the other GA. I said I don't have any major infractions to pin on the guy, but he does use the GA's influence to get away with little shit.

Now my next problem is his email response. First, the guy was not direct with me. Second if any punishment will occur it will happen to his roommate not him.

The GA may have let the computer simulation go, but the door no way in hell. This GA is fucking psycho about (physical) security.

2:03 PM - Testing Scroll Pane

I'm testing the scroll pane in the Java client.

Work really sucked today.

A lot of people spent the whole day bitching at me. Software was broken, and I had to deal with both of my bosses.

I still don't know why I need 2 bosses.
