8:54 AM - Students' rights online (update)

I was talking to my mother last night, and I mentioned that several private schools have been suspending and expelling students over blogs and websites. I noted that these sites were written at home, etc...

My mom told me that my old high school now has a "proper use" policy regarding computers. If a student writes anything offensive about the school or another student, he or she will be suspended or expelled. This policy concerns the students' personal websites and blogs.

I asked my mother how the school could even determine who wrote the comments. She told me that the policy is interrupted, ie. we have no way of proving who wrote what on the Internet.

I also pointed out that a student could impersonate another student to get him or her expelled.

For example, I don't like Carol. I make a blog and pretend to be Carol. Eventually I write something about myself as "Carol" to get her suspended or expelled.
