9:24 AM - 'SMS Fever'

"Da, r u cmng 2 clg 2day? f so, pls get ma fr assnmt". "hey, hrd u r goin 2 nlr...gr8!"....wondering what these are? If you are fairly young, you won't find a difficulty in understanding what this is...come on, have a try! YES!!! You guessed it right...these are messages which were sent to my inbox.  As I was typing these lines here, I noticed numerous red lines appearing in the text-and a question rose in my mind..."what is happening here"? Anyway...let me introduce myself...I am Neharika, one of the few uneducated people out there who can't understand short forms in text messages...so, going back to the subject, this kind of language is spreading everywhere now. It's like a disease, slowly feeding its venom to everyone on this earth. This language doesn't stop at messages...it extends to even examination papers...here's an example:

"D dad f eco s Adam Smith...he gave d idea dat eco s d procurement f wealth". I nearly had a fit when I saw this...even such a great economist is given only that much respect in this world. If the reaction of a student like me who reads such answers is like this, imagine the plight of the poor teachers! They burn the midnight oil everyday, trying to correct disgraceful papers like this during examinations. Sadly, English, the lingua franca of the world is in a suicidal position now, thanks to 'short form specialists'. So, what do we do? Nothing much, just be a fan of proper English and try to convince our friends and relatives to avoid short forms. Not much of a job, is it? Come on, all of us are brisk people, let's try at least this method to improve the current situation...the future leaders of India shouldn't have a language problem, should they? Think about it...
