5:30 AM - Renting Right for your first time
May and June are not only the beginning summer months, but
for a lot of people it is also the time of graduations and other
celebrations of achievement. When you graduate from college, the
world is your oyster and the options are limitless.
If you aren't already out of your home nest, the next step
for you is to move out to a place all your own. Renting can be a
scary idea if you don't know what to look for. You need to make
sure that your landlord is also someone you can get along with. In
a recent article in the Los Angeles Times, Landlords were given a
list of things to make sure they keep their tenants happy. This
could range from keeping the rent down, to improving the buildings
facilities, or just offering more services at a discounted
rate.
One of the items mentioned in the article was about updating
the apartment to fit the times including locks and doorknobs. Many
buildings have old locks that haven't been changed for quite some
time and can not only be a safety issue if they are easy to break
open, but a cosmetic appeal issue if they look old and worn out.
For larger areas such as Los Angeles, you would want to tell your
landlord, or go with them, to visit a
Los Angeles Locksmith to discuss
your options. You can get even more than one lock on your door to
ensure your safety and involve different types of locks. The main
goal is to make sure that both you and your landlord are
comfortable with the changes being made and that you both are on
the same page.
In smaller cities, you would want to check out the local
locksmith such as
Woodland Hills Locksmith to
ensure you are getting the best items for your money. There are
other updates you could do to your apartment as well, but the main
aspect you want to address for sure is your safety and the safety
of your items.
After you are sure your belongings are secure, you can rest
easy and turn your focus onto more important things….like
applying and interviewing for jobs! This is just one of the many
aspects people learn about when becoming an adult in the real world
and emerging from their parents homes or wherever they are most
comfortable. If you would like to continue reading on what
landlords are being told to improve for their renters, please refer
