7:38 PM - What to Expect After Liposuction and Liposuction RecoveryJaime Perez, M.D. Plastic Surgery Center of Tampa

If you are considering or have already decided to undergo liposuction, you probably have many questions about what to expect before and after your surgery.  Most people considering liposuction, or any elective cosmetic surgery, feel a mixture of excitement and anxiety as their surgery date approaches…this is perfectly normal.  Knowing what to expect will help alleviate any worries you may have and to aid in a speedy recovery.

Before Liposuction

Before liposuction it is important to be at a stable, healthy weight for at least three to six months before surgery.  Liposuction is best used for healthy, non-smoking patients at a stable weight with discrete, localized fat deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise.  Liposuction is not effective as a general weight loss technique and cannot be used to remove excess skin or stretch marks.

At your preoperative appointment, Dr. Jaime Perez will review your history and physical, discuss your goals for liposuction surgery in detail once again, and take preoperative liposuction photographs.

  The Day of Surgery

As the day of surgery approaches it is important to stay hydrated because you will be advised to stop eating or drinking at midnight the evening before surgery.  When you arrive at the Plastic Surgery Center of Tampa you will be given an IV and started on intravenous fluids.  The operating room staff and anesthesiologist will go over your history and physical.  Dr. Perez will speak to you before surgery, answer any last minute questions you may have, and mark the areas of your body to be addressed with liposuction.  The operating room staff will then escort you to the operating room.  At the Plastic Surgery Tampa , Dr. Perez performs most liposuction under general anesthesia with the typical procedure lasting one to three hours.

Immediately After Liposuction

After your surgery is complete you will awaken in the recovery room.  You will be given medications for nausea and pain to make your recovery from liposuction as comfortable as possible.  You will recover in the recovery room for about an hour; during that time, a friend or family member may join you until you are ready to leave.  You will not be able to drive yourself home the day of surgery and will need a responsible adult to drive you home. You should drink plenty of fluids the first few days after surgery to stay well hydrated.  If you are urinating less frequently than usual, feel short of breath, or dizzy be sure to call the office.

Liposuction Recovery

You must wear anti-embolism stockings for two weeks after surgery and one to two compression garments for six weeks after liposuction.  The stockings help prevent deep vein thromboses while the compression garments help decrease edema and speed healing following Liposuction Tampa

You may start driving when you are no longer taking narcotic pain medicines and when your reflexes are no longer limited by pain.  Most patients are able to return to work within one week of liposuction and are able to return to full exercise after six weeks.

Dr. Jaime Perez will see you the first day or two after surgery to ensure that your recovery from liposuction is progressing as expected.  He will see you approximately twice a week the first two weeks, then with decreasing frequency over the next six weeks.

Postoperative photographs will be taken at your six week follow up appointment.  Six weeks following your surgery you will be able to compare your before and after liposuction photographs.  Most patients are unable to believe their transformation and barely recognize their preoperative liposuction photographs.

12:24 AM - Best Liposuction Results in Tampa, FL Jaime Perez, M.D.Plastic Surgery Center of Tampa

Liposuction is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries performed in the United States, particularly in the Tampa Bay region of Florida.  As liposuction becomes more popular and patients become more educated, plastic surgeons and patients alike want to know how to get the best liposuction results possible.

Jaime Perez, at the Plastic Surgery Center of Tampa, has been performing and refining his technique for over ten years in private practice.  The key to his phenomenal liposuction results is appropriate patient selection, precise surgical technique, attention to detail, and close follow-up.

Liposuction Patient Selection

One of the keys to getting the best liposuction results possible is appropriate patient selection.  The best candidates for liposuction are patients at or near the ideal body weight with localized deposits of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise.  Patients should also be healthy enough to undergo general anesthesia and have minimal amounts of excess skin.

Liposuction Surgery Technique

The fundamental key to liposuction is to remove fat from the desired region of the body using cannulas placed at different depths and arranged at different angles.  Dr. Jaime Perez begins each liposuction surgery by removing the majority of fat from the deep fatty layer using large diameter cannulas.  Removing fat from the deep fatty layer decreases the risk of postoperative contour deformities and rippling.  After the majority of fat has been removed from a given area of the body, Dr. Perez next uses a slightly smaller cannula in the superficial fatty layer to sculpt and add definition to desired areas.  Liposuction cannulas should generally be placed at 90 degrees to each other and liposuction performed in a fan-like motion in the superficial fatty layer.  This precise attention to detail decreases the risk of creating divots or unnatural angles.  Finally, as a finishing touch to each liposuction surgery, Dr. Perez uses a small diameter cannula just deep to the skin.  This finishing touch causes a tiny degree of trauma to the deep surface of the skin, that when healed, results in tighter, smoother skin.

Attention to Detail

Dr. Perez's key to being one of the best plastic surgeons performing liposuction in the Tampa Bay area is his exacting attention to detail.  The best Liposuction Tampa results are obtained when liposuction is performed in a three-dimensional manner, not simply in a two-dimensional plane or to the area of the body that is easiest to get to.  During each liposuction surgery, Dr. Perez turns and repositions the patient so that each curve of the body can be evaluated and treated three-dimensionally, ensuring that the finished product blends in with each surrounding body part to create a beautiful, harmonious, natural-appearing result.

Liposuction Recovery and Follow-Up

Dr. Perez's care at the Plastic Surgery Center of Tampa does not end at the end of surgery.  Dr. Perez follows each liposuction patient, and every other cosmetic surgery patient, very closely for the first six weeks of surgery.  This close follow-up allows him to ensure that each patient is progressing as planned, lessen any patient concerns, and to treat any complications in a timely manner in the unlikely event that they may occur.

During the first two weeks of surgery Dr. Perez has all of his liposuction patients where anti-embolism stockings twenty-four hours a day to decrease the likelihood of a deep vein thrombosis.  All liposuction patients also wear one to two compression garments for six weeks following liposuction to speed recovery and prevent prolonged swelling.

Most patients are able to return to work within three to seven days and to return to full exercise by six weeks.  At the end of six weeks, Dr. Perez will take postoperative liposuction photographs in order to compare the before and after Liposuction Procedure Tampa pictures and the final liposuction results.

5:00 AM - How Plastic Surgery Can Better Your Life

Today, people can benefit from plastic surgery in many ways like never before. Plastic surgery has not only become safer, but more affordable for the general population. For many, plastic surgery is seen solely as a cosmetic improvement. While this is true and certain procedures are strictly for cosmetic reasons, other procedures are necessary to lead healthier and better quality lives. There are those who seek these procedures for both reasons, to look good and to be healthy.

One particular procedure that many women go through is Breast Augmentation Tampa Bay . Although breast implants have been around for a long time, new technologies and better methods have made this procedure safer and simpler for women. It is a procedure that can help women achieve a higher self-esteem and to be happier with their bodies without compromising health and safety.

While breast augmentation is purely a cosmetic procedure, others such as tummy tuck and liposuction are geared towards improving health and self-image. Tummy Tuck Tampa Bay is a procedure that can help achieve a flatter stomach, while getting rid of fat and skin especially after substantial weight loss or pregnancy. There are highly-qualified surgeons who can provide great results such as Plastic Surgeon Tampa Bay.

The tummy tuck procedure can get rid of excess fat, abdominal skin, and help those who have gone through this procedure maintain weight in the future.  Ideally, candidates should be healthy and close to their ideal weight. Tummy tuck is not for everyone. The average cost of tummy tucks in the United States is of $8400.00, but it varies from practice to practice.

Other popular procedures include Brazilian Butt Lift Tampa Bay, which can also add volume to certain parts of the body that people are not satisfied with. It is procedure in which fat from other parts of the body, such as upper thighs, is transferred to the buttocks.

Whether someone is trying to improve their image or become more healthy, plastic surgery can better someone's life in many ways.

12:47 AM - The Importance of a Natural Appearing Belly Button During Tummy Tuck Surgery

Just as the eyes are the focal point of the face, the belly button is the focal point of the abdomen.  Without a sexy, natural appearing belly button, a tummy tuck surgery cannot be aesthetically pleasing.  Dr. Jaime Perez at the Plastic Surgery Center of Tampa in Tampa, Florida has spent years perfecting his tummy tuck technique and has found that creating a well-shaped, perfectly positioned belly button is one of the most important aspects of the entire tummy tuck procedure.

The Unattractive Belly Button

With pregnancy, weight gain, umbilical hernias, or previous surgeries, the belly button can become misshapen and unattractive.   These belly buttons are often large, bulging, drooping, and unshapely.

Almost every patient considering a tummy tuck tampa has seen a friend or Internet pictures of someone who has gotten a tummy tuck with less than optimal results.  These unsatisfied patients often have lost the excess skin of the abdomen but are left with a flat, shapeless abdomen and trunk that looks more like a tin can than the curvy, defined abdomen they were hoping for.  The belly button is flat, round, artificial looking, and on the same plain as the rest of the abdominal wall.

The Attractive Belly Button

One of the most technically demanding aspects of a tummy tuck surgery is the creation and positioning of the belly button.  An attractive, natural appearing belly is small, vertical, oval, dips down into the abdominal wall, is "hooded" superiorly, and is encased by the contoured swells of the abdomen on either side.  The belly button is centered in the abdominal wall at approximately the level of the superior hipbones.

These aspects of an aesthetic belly button create an abdominal wall that looks three-dimensional, toned, and sexy.  To create a beautiful belly button, Dr. Jaime Perez performs several maneuvers developed during over a decade in the practice of cosmetic surgery.  First, an adequate amount of fat and subcutaneous tissue is maintained on the abdominal wall in order to form a "cushion" surrounding the belly button.  Second, if the patient has a long belly button, the belly button is shortened by securing it to the abdominal musculature.  Shortening the belly button ensures a sexy, downward slope from the surrounding abdominal wall to the base of the belly button.  Finally, a narrow, longitudinal opening in the abdominal skin is created to which the belly button is secured.  This creates an oval shaped belly button with superior hooding.

Care of the Belly Button After a Tummy Tuck

Following a tummy tuck procedure, hygiene and cleaning of the belly button is important.  Once the patient is allowed to shower (usually 48 hours after surgery), Dr. Jaime Perez allows his patients to gently wash the belly button and abdomen with soap and water and to pat dry.  To ensure the belly button is dry, he advises that patients gently cleanse the belly button with an alcohol-moistened cotton swab.  The alcohol dries any water left in the belly button and prevents a nidus for infection.  The belly button usually requires minimal care after two weeks and sutures are usually removed by three to four weeks.

Attention to Detail

While it may seem superfluous to wax on about the subtleties of the belly button, a poorly constructed belly button can ruin the results of any tummy tuck.  Attention to detail and the pursuit of perfection are just a few of the qualities that set Dr. Jaime Perez apart as one of the best tampa plastic surgeon in the Tampa Bay area.  His attention to detail, aesthetic eye, and high surgical standards ensures that each patient receives individualized surgical care constructed to meet the needs of their body, desires, and dreams.
